Backside orthodontics

矯正

A device that allows orthodontic treatment to continue without attracting attention

Because the device is not easily visible from the outside, orthodontic treatment can be performed without being noticed by others.
Recommended for those who do not want to be noticed by others or who, due to their profession, cannot wear conspicuous appliances on the front of their teeth.
Similar to treatment from the front, a device is attached to the back of each tooth and gradually moves the teeth using wires. The device is custom-made to fit the patient's teeth.

Advantages

  • - Better appearance
  • - Since the device is not visible from the outside, there is no aesthetic stress associated with being seen wearing orthodontic appliances. Additionally, unlike frontside orthodontics, there is no "protrusion or discomfort from the appliance" on the lips, allowing for a natural appearance during treatment.
  • - Less risk of trauma from impact
  • - When a device is attached to the front of the teeth, there is a risk of injury to the lips or cheek mucosa if the face is bumped or falls, but with backside orthodontics, the risk of injury is reduced. Therefore, it is recommended for those engaged in sports with vigorous movements.
  • - Reduced risk of cavities
  • - The back of the teeth is constantly moistened by saliva, making it less prone to cavities due to the self-cleaning action of saliva. Therefore, backside orthodontics can reduce the risk of cavities during treatment.
  • - Improvement in tongue habits
  • - If there is a habit of the tongue protruding forward, having the device on the back of the teeth can help suppress this movement, making it easier to improve and maintain proper tooth alignment.

Disadvantages

  • - Immediately after attachment, speech and eating may be difficult.
  • - Cost is higher compared to frontside orthodontics or half-lingual orthodontics.
  • - Each treatment session may be slightly longer compared to frontside orthodontics.
  • - It may be difficult to visually confirm when food is caught between the teeth and to remove it.

Suitable for:

  • - Those who cannot undergo frontside orthodontic treatment due to their profession, such as those in customer service roles.
  • - Those who do not want others to notice that they are undergoing orthodontic treatment.
  • - Those who have important events such as weddings approaching.
